Domestic abuse

If you or someone you know is suffering from domestic abuse, you can find helpful resources and contacts in this section.

There are many types of domestic abuse including physical violence, threats, sexual abuse and financial abuse. You can get support from:

  • the Police:

    • If you wish to report domestic abuse, call 101 or report online to the South Yorkshire Police here.

    • If your life is in danger, call 999. If you can’t speak, the operator will ask you to follow their instructions. This may mean they ask you to cough or press a button on the keypad, so they know you’re there and unable to speak. They will then ask you to press ‘55’ – this is the Silent Solution, and alerts the call handler that you are in an emergency situation. They will then listen to what they can hear in the background and make an assessment about the response you require.
