We're hiring another welfare benefits adviser - could it be you?



At Sheffield ME & Fibromyalgia Group we are proud to be able to offer tailored welfare benefits advice to members that truly understands the specific nature and difficulties of living with one or both of these illnesses.


We currently have a vacancy for someone to work as half of a team of two benefits advisers to ensure those affected by myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME/CFS) or fibromyalgia can fully access the benefits they are entitled to, through tailored welfare benefits advice and support.


The postholder will deliver high quality benefits advice and advocacy online, by telephone, drop-in and pre-booked sessions and very occasionally home visits. This sometimes includes

attending assessments and tribunals. They will also be expected to promote access to benefits through delivering talks, training sessions, drop-ins and through our website.


Sheffield ME & Fibromyalgia Group are a small charity whose aims are to promote

awareness of these illnesses, their impact on those affected and their carers, and to

provide help and assistance through mutual support and information exchange. The

charity’s activities cover South Yorkshire and north Derbyshire.


Applications are sought from candidates with experience of providing one-to-one casework

support as well as good knowledge and understanding of general and disability benefits.

Excellent communication, organisational and IT skills required. The successful candidate

will understand some of the issues facing those with severe chronic illness and will support

those marginalised by illness to have a voice and contribute to developing the service. Access to a car is desirable.


The Group has confirmed funding for 12 hours per week for 4 years and anticipates

confirmation of 18 hours per week shortly.
